Pawsitive Match Rescue Needs Help

Pawsitive Match Rescue is in a crisis financial situation.

To date for 2011, PMR vet bills have surpassed 160,000.00.  They have had an increase in vetting bills due to puppies with parvovirus, car accidents for dogs, specialized care/surgeries and many extensive dental work procedures.

Their adoption fees have not covered the bills and they are now in a position where they urgently need to raise money.

PMR is sending out a plea- they are asking if friends/supporters/adopters/volunteers could each try to raise 100.00 for them.  Maybe each of 10 friends will donate 10.00, or you can sell an unwanted item on Kijiji or Ebay, or whatever you can do to raise 100.00.

They can accept Paypal donations at www.pawsitivematch.org , Interac money transfers to pawsitivematch@gmail.com, or call 403-554-0782 for credit card processing.

In addition, we would be grateful if you forward this email to any animal loving friends...any amount helps them.

We thank you and hope that we can continue to save precious furkids with your help.

Molly Mutt - Show us your Stuff Sack Entry

Another entry for our Show us your Stuff Sack Contest:

Here’s my entry in your Molly Mutt contest:

Iggy, my 4-year-old Australian Shepherd, has severe separation anxiety that started when he was 6 months old. When I learned about the Molly Mutt beds, not only were they some of the most beautiful dog beds that would fit with my home’s decor; not only are they an innovative green solution with the owners providing their own stuffing; Molly Mutt beds are also a great option for my dog and his separation anxiety, since the bed would smell like me.

I fill my Molly Mutt stuff sack with worn out clothing, old bedding or towels that I have used. Since Iggy is a tracking dog in training, I know that his smell is very powerful, and that my smell hopefully provides him with comfort for the times I have to leave him alone. Also, being an SA dog, Iggy has done his fair share of destruction. Many of the items I use to stuff his bed were damaged by my anxious chewer:)

Iggy has a three Mutt Mutt duvets which I switch out when one is in the wash.

Here is a duvet and a duvet cover of my own that I lost to my little chewer, which now make for great stuffing:
And here is the little chewer enjoying his Molly Mutt bed:

Both Iggy and I couldn’t be more pleased with out Molly Mutt beds and hope we can add some more duvets to our collection.

Thanks
Shannon Horlor

Molly Mutt - Show us your Stuff Sack

A fantastic entry for our Molly Mutt contest!!

Well, this isn't actually a picture of my stuff sack (it's filled with an old blanket, leg warmers from an 80s costume (seriously), cloth napkins we got as a wedding present but hate, a flat sheet we don't have the fitted partner to, and some partnerless socks and probably some other things I can't think of) - this is the story of my sustainably re-purposing of the actual Molly Mutt cover.

I purchased the Molly Mutt duvet and sack, well, my sister bought them for me as a "welcome to the family" for Maggie, about a year ago.  Maggie made a few little nibbles on one corner of the bed but it stayed relatively chew free for the first 18 months of her life.

Two weeks ago I got a call at work: "Guess what your dog did?!" (Why is it when she does something bad she's always MY dog?)  I couldn't guess, so I was told.  Inexplicably, Maggie decided to chew her bed and eat almost the entire zipper.  I thought maybe I could just take it to a tailor and have the zipper replaced but no, she had also eaten a large chunk of the side panel.  I swear I fed her breakfast!

I loved the pattern so much though, and thought the decal was so cute (and apparently Maggie is inspired to eat when she sees it) - so I sprayed some old frames I found at the Salvation Army and have hung it as art in Maggie's dining area.

Two are above her food/water bowls and one is on the shelf with our other display items...for humans to enjoy (that one has her puppy nibbles in it - I had to save them).

So even though the bed couldn't be saved.  A large portion of it could be, and will live on.

Thanks guys!!

February is Pet Dental Month

There are several ways you can care for your pet’s teeth every day. A complete home dental care program for your pet often will include brushing as well as a pet food or supplement that helps care for your pet’s teeth while he or she eats.

Even if you aren’t able to brush your pet’s teeth every day, by incorporating a pet food into your pet’s daily routine or supplement, you can provide the dental care needed to keep your pet healthy. Be sure to talk with your veterinarian about the options that exist and which are right for your pet.
Brushing Your Pet´s Teeth

STEP 1: Introduce a brushing program to pets gradually. Avoid over-restraining your pet and keep brushing sessions short and positive. A cat or small dog can be held in your lap. Praise and reassure your pet throughout the process.

STEP 2: At first, dip a finger into beef bouillon for dogs or tuna water for cats. Rub the soaked finger gently over the pet’s mouth and teeth. Make the initial sessions short and positive.

STEP 3: Gradually, introduce gauze over the finger and gently scrub the teeth in a circular motion.

STEP 4: Finally, you can introduce a soft toothbrush designed for pets. Use a sensitive or ultra-soft brush designed for people or a brush designed for pets. Special pet toothbrushes are available from your veterinarian or specialty pet store. Don’t use toothpaste designed for people because it could upset the animal’s stomach.

Check out this video on how to introduce your pet to daily brushing and teeth care from the American Veterinary Medical Association:
